The Secret Place

The Secret Place
Psalms 91:1

A secret place is a place where you hide away from everything.  You will take refuge in this place to be protected from all the danger you are going through spiritually, physically and mentally.  In this lesson, we want to talk about what the secret place is in God, what happens there and why being in that secret place is important in our daily lives today.

What is the secret place and what happens there?

Psalms 91:1 states “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

The secret place the psalmist is talking about is a place in God were we will find peace. We can hide away and rest in his presence.  It is a place of protection and a place of defense. It’s not an actual physical place but a spiritual place in God. To be in God’s presence we must first acknowledge that He is the Most High God. We must dwell there by continually praying, fasting and reading of his word.  This will bring you peace and comfort to your mind and the situation that’s making you weary and distressed.

In the secret place you will abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
  • To abide means to continue permanently or to be firm and immovable.
  •   Under the Shadow means that you will be covered by God. In Psalms 91:4 it states “He shall cover thee with his feathers and under his wings shalt thou trust”…)
For example, when your outside and it is hot, most people put an umbrella up so that the heat will not harm them. Or as the cloud on a cloudy day covers the sun and the shadow of it protects from being so hot. It cools the day down. The shadow of it keeps you cool from the heat. That’s how God will cover you. You will be covered from all the fiery darts and trials of the devil that try to consume us day by day.

Psalms 91:2 I will say of the Lord, he is my refuge and my fortress my God; in him will I trust. God is an impenetrable God and nothing can penetrate through him. All power is in his hands. He will protect us.  Every day the (devil) schemes up tactics to bring us down; to make us fall and give up. Maybe you are facing some hardship right now such as
  •  You lost your job and the bills are due
  • People are talking about you and scandalizing your name
  • You husband or wife just walked out on you
  • Your children are getting out of control
  • Your church is getting out of control
  •  Or you are just going through in your mind and spirit

There are so many other trials that we go through on a regular basis.  We are always under attack, but the word of God says “the Name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” Proverbs 8:10.  He is mighty and able to keep us and He is greater than anything we face. We just have to trust in him.

Why is it important to have such a place as this? Most people are not interested in knowing about God in their lives.  They don’t think that God is real. But when sickness or a trouble arises, who is the first person they call on. God! God is the source of our everyday lives and without him we cannot be victorious.

Being in the Secret Place of God offers so many benefits.  Some of the benefits are.
He will deliver you from the “snare of the fowler” (Psalms. 91:3)
  • Those who try to set traps for you to fall
·He will deliver you from the “noisome pestilence” (Psalms. 91:3)
  • Things or people that mean you no good.  They are dangerous and poisonous.  They only have one thing on their mind. To kill, steal, and destroy. They poison your spirit with vain things to try and persuade you from serving the only one and true God. They are pest, just making a lot of noise to get you off track.
He will be your shield (Psalms. 91:4)
He will cover you with his wings(Psalms.91:4)
  •  Like a bird covers her eggs with her wings so that the eggs won’t get hurt. No hurt will come to you.
No evil shall befall thee, nor shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling
(Psalms 91:10)
  • Sickness and disease will not harm you.

Because you have made God your trust and believe fully in him as your protector, God promises to answer and deliver you in your times of trouble; He will set you on high and honor you. Psalms 91:14-16 (which means you will be in high places where your enemies cannot touch you). The only thing they will be able to see is Gods favor over your life. He will continually recognize you as his child.

For God has been a strength to the poor a strength to the needy in his distress a refuge from the storm and a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall. (Isaiah 25-4).

We can’t see God but we know that he is real and because we are his children he will continually protect us. He has got our back!
Let’s get into our secret place
